Welcome to Osaka University! 2023-24 Spring Entrance Ceremony held

Osaka University held its 2023-2024 Spring Entrance Ceremony under clear blue skies at Osaka-jo Hall on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, with 6,361 individuals (3,403 undergraduate students and 2,958 graduate students) entering the university.

Last year, attendance at the ceremony was restricted to new students only, but this year, two guests were allowed to accompany each new student. Those who could not attend in-person were able to view a live stream of the ceremony.

At the ceremony, which began at 1:30 pm in a solemn atmosphere, two student representatives, TERAOKA Mizuki (School of Engineering) and TOKUYAMA Akari (Graduate School of Science), made oaths of admission.

In his speech, President Nishio mentioned Osaka University’s roots, which reach back to Kaitokudo, Tekijuku, and Osaka School of Foreign Languages, schools for the people, by the people. He congratulated the students, expressing his hope that they would develop their cultural literacy to find solutions to social problems and enjoy their precious time on campus.

Finally, performances welcoming the new students by Osaka University's Symphony Orchestra, Mixed Chorus, Male Chorus, and Cheerleading Party concluded the ceremony on a festive note.
