OTRI and Sakaide City Sign Partnership Agreement

Osaka University's Institute for Open and Transdisciplinary Research Initiatives (OTRI) and Sakaide City in Kagawa Prefecture signed a partnership agreement to promote regional cooperation in culture, education, industry, and community development on December 20, 2022.

OU’s project, the Futuristic and Intelligent Infrastructure Model Center, was selected for COI-NEXT Creating a Sustainable Society via the Formation of Independent, Sustained Hubs for Industry-University-Government Co-creation [Regional Co-Creation Area] by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) in 2021.

In this project, OTRI conducted joint research for realizing ground sensing systems under the partnership agreement with Toyono Town in Osaka Prefecture.

From academic year 2023, the project will change its name to the Futuristic and Intellectual Co-Creation Town Division, and will work on finding regional challenges and conducting survey research to see how local residents think for the purpose of solving issues by utilizing the strengths and characteristics of Sakaide City.

Thus, Osaka University concluded the agreement with Sakaide, which faces the Seto Inland Sea. This city blessed with nature has ports, islands, industrial sites and industrial districts and is also promoting the use of information and communications technology (ICT) in education. The university will solve problems confronting local communities through co-creation with Sakaide.
