Title of Osaka University Global Alumni Fellow awarded to Professor Chang-Jiu Li

On Monday, March 20, 2023, the title awarding ceremony for Osaka University Global Alumni Fellow took place at the university, where Professor Chang-Jiu Li of Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) received the certificate of the title from Executive Vice President KAWAHARA Genta in charge of Global Engagement.

The title of Global Alumni Fellow is conferred to OU alumni who are active overseas in order to build an international network.

After studying at Osaka University's Welding Research Institute (now the Joining and Welding Research Institute (JWRI)) as a research student, Dr. Li completed the master’s and doctoral courses at the Graduate School of Engineering. He currently performs joint research as a visiting professor at JWRI while also promoting international exchange as vice chair of the JWRI Alumni Association.

The ceremony was held in the presence of Professor KONDOH Katsuyoshi (Senior Advisor to the President), and Professor Ninshu Ma (a contact person for the ceremony) and Specially Appointed Assistant Professor Qian Wang from JWRI. Professor Li expressed his gratitude to congratulatory messages from his family who were also present at the ceremony.

After presenting the certificate of the title and a commemorative gift, Executive Vice President Kawahara asked for Professor Li's continued support in strengthening collaboration among XJTU, JWRI, and OU.

Professor Li expressed his gratitude, saying: “Everything that I experienced at OU has made me what I am today.” Those in attendance talked about 40-year long history of collaboration of the two universities, as well as their future strengthening of joint research and student exchange.
