Representative KAMIKAWA Yoko visits Osaka University

On Monday, February 20, 2023, Representative KAMIKAWA Yoko visited the Suita Campus to learn about re-skilling and recurrent education at OU.

After hearing details and results of re-skilling and recurrent education based on industry-university collaboration from President NISHIO Shojiro, Executive Vice President TANAKA Toshihiro, and Executive Vice President ONOYE Takao, Ms. Kamikawa exchanged opinions with them.

This was followed by tours of the sites where re-skilling and recurrent education was provided: Osaka University Shimadzu Omics Innovation Research Laboratory and the R³ Institute for Newly-Emerging Science Design.

At the laboratory, Ms. Kamikawa spoke with doctoral students in the REACH Laboratory Project* on the significance of re-skilling and recurrent education at OU. At the R³ Institute for Newly-Emerging Science Design, which promotes graduate school-level education on a university-wide basis based on the concept of “recurrent/re-skilling/retraining” or "R³", Ms. Kamikawa remotely experienced cutting-edge devices prepared for high-level education for technical developers on the Toyonaka Campus, speaking with faculty members at the institute on topics such as virtual training.

After the tours, Ms. Kamikawa placed high hopes on recurrent education at OU, which is mutually beneficial to both the university and the company, saying that this type of education would give the company the benefit of human resources development and give the university the benefit of education reform through co-creation with society.

*REACH Laboratory Project: A recurrent education project dedicated to the development of highly skilled talent, including earning doctorate degrees, with the aim of developing young technicians and researchers at Shimadzu Corporation.
