OU delegation attends Establishment Ceremony for the Joining and Welding Research Institute HUST-OU in Vietnam

On Tuesday, January 10, 2023, Osaka University delegation, including President NISHIO Shojiro, Executive Vice President KAWAHARA Genta, Joining and Welding Research Institute (JWRI) Director TANAKA Manabu, attended the Establishment Ceremony for the Joining and Welding Research Institute HUST-OU held at Hanoi University of Science and Technology in Vietnam.

Since the agreement signed in 2013, JWRI and the School of Mechanical Engineering of HUST took a leading role in the establishment of this research center for welding and joining technology. Their efforts bore fruit and the Joining and Welding Research Institute HUST-OU was established with support from the Japanese and Vietnamese governments as well as corporations in Japan and Vietnam.

Attendees of the ceremony included Hoang Minh Son, Deputy Minister of Education and Training, Furudate Seiki, First Secretary of the Japanese Embassy in Vietnam, Yamada Takio, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Vietnam, and Huynh Quyet-Thang, HUST President.

In the presence of guests from corporations and government organizations, the announcement of the decision on the establishment of this research center, a ribbon-cutting ceremony, and a signing ceremony for two new industry-university collaboration agreements between the research center and corporate partners was conducted.

The ceremony confirmed bilateral collaboration between the two universities, offering proof that the future burns bright with promise as an ASEAN joining and welding research hub.

President Nishio expressed his hope for the institute, saying, “HUST-OU will develop joining and welding technology in Vietnam and ASEAN nations, bring a new perspective to the development of technology to achieve practical use, and greatly contribute to further advancement of society."
