Title of Osaka University Global Alumni Fellow awarded to Professor LEE Soo Jae and Professor Jung Keun Ahn

Prof. Lee receives title of Global Alumni Fellow

On Thursday, July 28, 2022, the title awarding ceremony for the Osaka University Global Alumni Fellow took place at the university, where Professor LEE Soo Jae of Chungbuk National University received the certificate of title from Executive Vice President KAWAHARA Genta (Global Engagement).

The title of Global Alumni Fellow is conferred to OU alumni who are active overseas in order to build an international network. In-person title awarding ceremonies were not held for the last 2 years and 8 months due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Prof. Lee, who completed the doctoral course at Osaka University’s Graduate School of Science, is currently engaged in pharmaceutical research at Chungbuk National University in Korea. He was involved in joint research with Osaka University’s Institute for Protein Research during the COVID-19 pandemic by sharing experimental data as an international research fellow.

The ceremony was held in the presence of Vice Director NAKAGAWA Atsushi of the Institute for Protein Research, Prof. Lee’s contact person, as well as Osaka University Professor Emeritus TSUKIHARA Tomitake, who served as Prof. Lee’s advisor while he was in the doctoral course.

During the social gathering following the ceremony, Executive Vice President Kawahara expressed his expectation for Prof. Lee to cooperate with building partnerships with Chungbuk National University and other universities in Korea.

Prof. Ahn receives title of Global Alumni Fellow

Prof. Jung Keun Ahn of Korea University was awarded with the title of Osaka University Global Alumni Fellow on Tuesday, August 2, 2022.

Prof. Ahn, who served as a lecturer (Center of Excellence research fellow) at OU’s Research Center for Nuclear Physics, has engaged in hadron physics research at LEPS/LEPS2 (Laser Electron Photon beamlines at the SPring-8 synchrotron radiation ring) as a full-time specially-appointed researcher at the Research Center for Nuclear Physics under the university’s cross-appointment system.

The title awarding ceremony was held in the presence of Director NAKANO Takashi of the Research Center for Nuclear Physics, Prof. Ahn’s contact person.

During a meeting after the presentation of the certificate and commemorative gifts by Executive Vice President Kawahara, Prof. Ahn and other attendees talked about various topics, such as how international exchange should be during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the Korean language.

Director Nakano spoke about the strength of the bonds between Korea and Japan in the field of physics, while Executive Vice President Kawahara expressed his hope that the bond with Korea University and eventually with Korea as a whole will be strengthened, asking Prof Ahn to help to build an OU alumni network in Korea.
