Osaka University celebrates the anniversary of its founding on May 1

May 1st marks the anniversary of the founding of Osaka University.

On this day, 91 years ago, in 1931, Osaka University was born in the Nakanoshima district of Osaka City as Osaka Imperial University with two schools: Science and Medicine.

Today, the university will hold the Ceremony and Memorial Lecture for Osaka University’s 90th and Osaka University of Foreign Studies’ 100th Anniversary, after a year-long delay due to the spread of COVID-19. OU-related individuals including alumni will speak to an audience about their memories at OU and the future of the university.

In addition, the university will hold the Icho Festival in-person on May 3 and 4 for the first time in 3 years in order to celebrate the day of its founding, welcome new students, and form friendships among OU community members as well as bonds with local communities.

Since we asked applicants to register in advance as preventive measures against COVID-19, the number of visitors allowed to our campus will be limited; however, online events for high school students will also be provided, so we hope you take this opportunity to get a feel for the university.

Osaka University, which has developed with society through education and research activity under its motto of “Live Locally, Grow Globally,” will continue its journey to the future with all of you.
