7 OU researchers win 2022 MEXT Commendations for Science and Technology

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) announced the recipients of the 2022 Commendations for Science and Technology.

In order to motivate those individuals working in the fields of science and technology and contribute to the improvement of science and technology in Japan, MEXT awards the following prizes:

  • Awards for Science and Technology (Development, Research, Science and Technology Promotion, Technology, Public Understanding Promotion categories)
  • Young Scientists' Award
  • Award for Creativity
  • Outstanding Support for Research Award

This year, from Osaka University, 7 faculty members received awards.

Awards for Science and Technology (Research Category)

■ OGI Hirotsugu (Professor, Graduate School of Engineering, Osaka University) for his research on wireless quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) biosensors using micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) technology

Young Scientists’ Award

■ OKAWA Shinnosuke (Associate Professor, Graduate School of Science, Osaka University) for his research on noncommutative algebraic geometry

■ KIYAMA Haruki (Assistant Professor, SANKEN, Osaka University) for his research on measurements of single electron spins in semiconductor quantum dots

■ GOTO Minori (Assistant Professor, Graduate School of Engineering, Osaka University) for his research on microwave amplification induced by conversion from heat dynamics to spin dynamics

■ KOBAYASHI Nobuyuki (Assistant Professor, Research Center for Nuclear Physics, Osaka University) for his research on deformation-driven neutron halo in neutron-rich nuclei

■ SAKAUE Saori (Postdoctoral Fellow, Harvard Medical School/Visiting Faculty Member, Graduate School of Medicine, Osaka University) for her research on large-scale genomic analysis towards clinical applications

■ MATSUBARA Yasuko (Associate Professor, SANKEN, Osaka University) for her research on modeling and forecasting of big time-series data streams
