Center for Student Success Research and Practice (SLiCS) opened
The Center for Study of Higher Education and Global Admissions (CHEGA) at Osaka University has been reorganized to open the Center for Student Success Research and Practice (SLiCS; Director: Specially Appointed Professor KAWASHIMA Tatsuo) on April, 1, 2022.
The university has promoted the construction of a campus-wide, inter-departmental education system to nurture well-educated human resources with a high level of expertise so that they can take on the challenges of the future with high research ability.
In order to further these efforts, the university should make efforts to shift to student-oriented education. At the same time, using ever-evolving digital transformation technology, the university needs to provide students with customized support to meet each student’s needs by gathering and analyzing information about their careers from pre-enrollment, to going to graduate school, and to employment after graduation, and giving them feedback to optimize the support.
In addition, if the university’s short-, medium-, and long-term education effects are visualized through data analysis, society’s understanding of the university and support to the university will increase. From the student side, a one-stop learning and life support, or a system in which information about academic affairs, career and life support, and faculty member data are combined and provided quickly in response to requests from students, faculty and staff members, is required.
Thus, the university established SLiCS. This center will gather and analyze students’ educational data and provide students with campus-wide, data-based learning and life support, which will be personalized and optimized to each student’s needs.
SLiCS consists of 7 divisions: High School-University Collaboration Division, Entrance Examination PR and Development Division, Learning Support Division, Division for Digital Transformation of Learning Support, Division for Quality Assurance of Learning Support, Career Education Division, and Division for Institutional Research of Learning Support & Data Infrastructure for Learning Support.
This center will strive to realize student-oriented education, namely education to develop students’ individual potential to its fullest in cooperation with related departments.
