OU selected for the Project for Promoting Public Utilization of Advanced Research Infrastructure sponsored by MEXT

Osaka University was selected for the Project for Promoting Public Utilization of Advanced Research Infrastructure, a funding project by The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT).

The following programs were selected:
(1) Program to Form Core Research Bases
(2) For the Program to Support for Formation of Advanced Research Platforms , the platforms below were selected.

(a) Experimental platform using high-power laser at the Institute of Laser Engineering
(b) Platform for sharing MRI scanning machines for research purposes at the Division of Health Sciences, Graduate School of Medicine

OU will promote joint use of research infrastructure by coordinating these three programs. At the same time, through these activities, the university will accelerate its digital transformation (DX) of research activity in the OUDX Initiative*.

*OUDX Initiative: an Osaka University initiative to promote digital transformation of education, research, medical care, and university management at the university for the purpose of creating a new society through effective use of data and digital technologies.

1) Program to Form Core Research Bases

This program seeks to make systems to strategically introduce, upgrade, and share research facilities and equipment so that they will function as core research facilities.
In this program, Osaka University will:

  • Construct a system to share advanced facilities and equipment, which will be central to digital transformation of research activities,
  • Promote industry-university co-creation activity through digital transformation of research activities,
  • Use data collected from digital transformation of research activities, and
  • Improve abilities and promote activity of technical staff.

By focusing on these four strategies, as a world-class innovative university, OU will make efforts to share research facilities, develop university research administrators, and achieve digital transformation of research activities for the purpose of creating a new society.

2) Program to Support for Formation of Advanced Research Platforms

This program seeks to continuously maintain and develop infrastructures for research and development in Japan by creating a network of leading research facilities in the country (its role includes the improvement and operation of these facilities) and by forming a nationwide platform for providing all researchers with advanced support systems.

The following two platforms have been selected to this program from Osaka University.

(a) Experimental platform using high-power lasers at the Institute of Laser Engineering

This platform aims to develop into a new platform that will provide users with access to power laser equipment and facilities whenever they need it, regardless of the their affiliation, background, or location.

(b) Platform for sharing MRI scanning machines for research purposes at the Division of Health Sciences, Graduate School of Medicine

This platform aims to become a platform for sharing MRI scanning machines for research purposes by connecting MRI machines at universities and research institutes all over Japan by advanced digital technologies to merge real and virtual spaces.
