Opening Ceremony for the Time Capsule of the Former Osaka High School's Alumni Association

A time capsule of the Osaka High School (OHS) Alumni Association, which was buried at Daiko no Mori* 30 years ago (1991) and was meant to be opened in 2021, the 100th anniversary of the founding of OHS, was unearthed on October 26.

  • Daiko no Mori (大高の森) – Daiko (大高) is the nickname of the former Osaka High School, a predecessor of Osaka University’s School of Liberal Arts (currently, the Center for Education in Liberal Arts and Sciences). Daiko no Mori was created on the Toyanaka Campus in 1972 using a donation from the OHS Alumni Association.

The opening ceremony for the time capsule was held at Nambu Yoichiro Hall in the Graduate School of Science on Saturday, November 6, 2021, the date of the 100th anniversary of OHS's founding.

26 OHS alumni and family members attended the ceremony to celebrate its 100th anniversary.

At the ceremony, KIMURA Masaharu, OHS Alumni Association Chair, greeted attendees and presented a list of donations to Osaka University. Following that, President Nishio delivered a congratulatory speech and a video of the excavation and investigation of the time capsule was shown.

Then, Chairman Kimura, OHS Alumni Association Vice Secretary KOMENO Motoh, President Nishio, and Director SHINDO Shuichi of the Center for Education in Liberal Arts and Sciences opened the time capsule.

Later, the contents of the time capsule were revealed, Vice Secretary Komeno delivered closing remarks, and, following introductory remarks by Chairman Kimura, attendees sang the OHS dormitory song, ending the opening ceremony on a high note.

Letters from OHS alumni that were kept in the time capsule were presented to their families following the ceremony.
