Regarding Osaka University's response to the state of emergency declaration (January 2021)

On January 13, 2021, the government issued a state of emergency declaration for 7 prefectures, including Osaka Prefecture, under the Act on Special Measures for Pandemic Influenza and New Infectious Diseases Preparedness and Response (新型インフルエンザ等対策特別措置法).

In this declaration, the government has asked for appropriate responses from universities that will prevent the spread of infection while continuing to provide opportunities for students to learn. This can be accomplished by the effective implementation of both face-to-face and online classes while adhering to infection prevention countermeasures.

In response to this declaration, on January 13, 2021, Osaka University raised a portion of its response levels in order to maintain its activity levels for research and education while taking measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19. In doing so, we ask you to limit any unnecessary or non-urgent outings and do all you can to avoid direct interaction with other people.

In carrying out its activities, the university will comply with the " Osaka University Guidelines for Social Distancing in the COVID-19 Era " while providing proper arrangements for individuals with specific needs*.

*Pregnant women, those who are at high risk of becoming seriously ill, such as the elderly, those with an underlying condition (diabetes, heart failure, respiratory disease (COPD etc.)), those receiving dialysis, immunosuppressants, or anticancer drugs, or those who feel an overwhelming anxiety about COVID-19.

The university will continue to monitor the situation and modify its response levels accordingly.
