OU-led project “The Quantum Software Research Hub” selected for JST funding research programs

The Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) selected the project "Quantum Software Research Hub” for its funding program COI-NEXT (full-fledged type) in the quantum technology field. COI-NEXT is a program for supporting the formation of co-creation hubs, and Osaka University (lead university), along with 16 other institutes, jointly applied for this program.

Institutes selected for the full-fledged type must make proposals, in an integrated fashion, for both (a) promoting R&D according to the vision of the hub and (b) building systems for achieving R&D through industry-academia co-creation. The quantum technology field is one of the three strategic fields in government policies.

Project leader

KITAGAWA Masahiro (Director, Center for Quantum Information and Quantum Biology, Institute for Open and Transdisciplinary Research Initiatives, Osaka University)

Deputy Project Leader s

AWASHIMA Toru (to be appointed Adjunct Professor of the Center for Quantum Information and Quantum Biology; Toyota Tsusho Corporation)

MATSUOKA Tomoyo (to be appointed Adjunct Associate Professor of the Center for Quantum Information and Quantum Biology ; COO, QunaSys Inc.)

Participating Institutes

Toyota Tsusho Corporation, QunaSys Inc., Amazon Web Services, e-trees.Japan, Inc.,  Itochu Techno-Solutions Corporation, AGC Inc., NF Holdings Corporation, JX Nippon Oil & Gas Exploration Corporation, Sony Corporation, DIC Corporation, Tosoh Corporation, Hitachi, Ltd., Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd., Bridgestone Corporation, and others

The Quantum Software Research Hub is an open-platform hub (international hub) that plays a part in the nation’s quantum technology innovation strategies.

Osaka University will achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), such as “Zero Hunger (SDG2),” “Affordable and Clean Energy (SDG7),” “Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure (SDG9),” and “Climate Action (SDG13),” by solving problems using quantum technologies, under its vision of “realizing a sustainable future society using a co-creation platform for quantum software development."

Osaka University is preparing the implementation plan for this hub in cooperation with JST. For general information about this project, click here . (link in Japanese)
