Revision of Industry-University-Government Partnership (IUGP) promotion expenses in joint research

National University Corporation Osaka University

Dear corporations,

Osaka University wishes to inform you that we are planning to increase the Industry-University-Government Partnership (IUGP) promotion expenses to 30% or greater.

Currently, when conducting a joint research project with corporations, the university asks corporations to bear the direct expenses necessary for performing the research project as well as 20% of the direct expenses as Industry-University-Government Partnership (IUGP) promotion expenses (indirect expenses).

The university uses the IUGP promotion expenses for promoting IUGPs, such as expenses for application, maintenance, and management of intellectual property rights, as well as expenses for consultations and contracts regarding joint research in order to maintain and develop IUGPs.

As co-creative activity with corporations has expanded and deepened, more money is required for promoting efforts to develop co-creative activity in the future. Thus, the university has increased the rate of IUGP promotion expenses in joint research, Joint Research Chairs, Research Alliance Laboratories, and joint projects to 30% or greater. This applies to projects that commence on or after April 1, 2021.

The university will use the revised IUGP promotion expenses for improving the research environment, the foundation of co-creative activity, and strengthening industry-university management in order to further promote joint research to create innovation for social change.

Osaka University asks corporations for their understanding regarding this rate increase and for their continued support in paying direct expenses necessary for executing research activities.

Please refer to the Notice on Revision of Industry-University-Government Partnership (IUGP) promotion expenses for more information.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the department listed below.

Osaka University will further develop its outstanding academic research to create new knowledge and social value by promoting co-creative approaches with corporations. We hope that you will understand our situation and continue your support in promoting co-creative activity together with us.
