Osaka University's semiannual magazine, Osaka University NewsLetter #83 , has been published.

This issue introduces Osaka University faculty, staff, and students who confront the novel infectious disease, COVID-19. Featured on the cover and the double-page spread are the chairman of the Seven Universities Meet Executive Committee and the head of the OU Cheerleading Party, who express their determination to win the next meet. OU, a host university of the meets, had to give up holding this year’s meet due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Latest Research section features interviews with a researcher who is developing coronavirus vaccines and a researcher who is creating a new solution to reduce plastic waste in a situation in which plastic is one of the cheapest and most effective material for preventing the spread of the pandemic. The Unique Education section takes a closer look at online education, and in this issue's Special Feature , a director of the QIQB, a world-leading center for quantum research, clearly explains about basics of quantum mechanics. The issue also carries the stories of innovative oxidant MA-T and garden designer SATOH Miki, a Gold Medal Award winner of the 2019 Chelsea Flower Show.
