SEEDS programs selected as a grant recipient for the Mitsubishi Memorial Foundation for Educational Excellence 2020 Funding Program

The SEEDS Program ( S cience and Engineering E nhanced E ducation for D istinguished S tudents) at Osaka University, which was started in the 2015-16 academic year, was selected as a grant recipient for the Mitsubishi Memorial Foundation for Educational Excellence 2020 Funding Program.

On August 17, TAMEMOTO Yoshihiko, Manager of the Administration Bureau of the Foundation, visited Osaka University to conclude a memorandum with Executive Vice President TANAKA Toshihiro.

The Foundation was established by the Mitsubishi Group in commemoration of its 150 th anniversary in 2020.

Under the motto of “Bright Future for Kids,” the Foundation provides grants for educational activities for developing the next generation, support for enhancing activity results, networking, dissemination of information, and opportunities for cooperation among related people.

The university will receive support from the Foundation over three years to develop the SEEDS Program as a project to link high school and university beyond conventional boundaries. Specifically, the university will expand the program, which was formerly limited to science schools, to collaboration with liberal arts schools, various centers such as the ELSI Center (Research Center on Ethical, Legal and Social Issues), and industry circles.

Following the memorandum exchange, the representatives of the parties talked with Professor SUGIYAMA Kiyohiro (SEEDS Program Director) about the role of secondary and higher education linkage and educational activity.
