Welcome! OU Meet-up for New International Students

Osaka University has been holding all activities on line in response to COVID-19.  With the change in the response level from mid-June, we have started to have some offline activities while avoiding 3Cs. CIEE (Center for International Education and Exchange) has been holding all the activities at IRIS (Information Room for International Students) on line since this past April. With change in the response level at the University, IRIS recently started to have some offline activities.

CIEE and Department of International Affairs held welcome events for mainly newly enrolled international students on July 6 in Suita Campus (Language: English) and on July 7 in Toyonaka Campus (Language: Japanese).

Despite the unfortunate weather, 13 international students in Suita and 21 in Toyonaka participated in the event.

After the opening remarks by KAWAHARA Genta, Executive Vice President, TOMONO Kazunori, Professor of Osaka University Hospital gave a lecture on the novel coronavirus. Then, MIZUTA Ichiro, Vice-Director and Professor at Health and Counseling Center, gave a lecture on basic knowledge of mental health. Lastly, from CIEE (Center for International Education and Exchange), UOSAKI Noriko, Specially Appointed Associate Professor (in Suita) and OKAMOTO Sachi, Associate Professor (in Toyonaka) talked about various useful information for international students and interacted with participants on each campus.

After the meet-ups, participants moved to Information Room for International Students (IRIS) on each campus and interacted with each other.

Due to the influence of the novel coronavirus, some students felt uneasy with little opportunity to come to the campus since April.  However, they seemed to have a good time interacting with each other by participating in this event.
