MEXT Senior Deputy Minister YAMAWAKI Yoshio visits Osaka University

On Friday, August 30, Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) Senior Deputy Minister YAMAWAKI Yoshio and his entourage visited Osaka University.

Their visit began with a tour of the Techno-Alliance Building on the Suita Campus (Suita City), where President NISHIO Shojiro spoke about the current situation of the university’s collaboration with the industry and its unique approach to university-industry co-creation, after which Executive Vice President KANEDA Yasufumi gave an explanation about efforts by the Co-Creation Bureau.

Following this, at the Institute for Datability Science in the Techno-Alliance Building, President Nishio spoke about endeavors being carried out at the Institute as well as its vision for the future.

After Professor HARUMOTO Kaname from the Institute explained about verification experiments carried out on campus, staff at the institute demonstrated how cameras installed in the sports field on the Toyonaka Campus (Toyonaka City) were remotely operated from the Suita Campus. The tour gave the Deputy Minister Yamawaki and his entourage a glimpse of OU’s unique activity.

Later, the group took a tour of the Co-Creative Innovation Building, getting briefed on the history of Osaka University and its efforts to promote diversity at the university from President Nishio and Executive Vice President KUDOH Mayumi. After the tour, Senior Deputy Minister Yamawaki exchanged opinions with President Nishio and OU faculty and staff members about the university’s efforts as a Designated National University.
