Cancellation of a Doctoral Degree


Osaka University has made the decision to cancel the degree issued by our university listed below.

Former student enrolled in the second semester of a doctoral course at the Osaka School of International Public Policy, Osaka University
Degree issued: 2009 (Heisei 21) 24 March
Degree type: Doctorate (International Public Policy)
Degree number: 23039

2. Title of thesis/dissertation:
The EU Involvement in Dictatorial Regimes: The Case Study of Myanmar
(独裁政権に対するEUの政策 - ミャンマーの事例を中心に)

3. Date of conferred degree cancellation:
21 August 2019 (Reiwa 1)

4. Summary of the facts in regards to obtaining a degree using fraudulent methods (Attachment 1)

5. Cancellation of the degree and return of the diploma:
As misconduct (plagiarism) was found to have been committed regarding the thesis/dissertation submitted to obtain a doctoral degree (Ph.D.), according to the Osaka University Degree Regulations, Paragraph 1, Article 22, stating "In the event that an individual who has been granted a degree is recognized as having acquired the degree through dishonest means...", the degree (Ph.D. [International Public Policy]) is to be cancelled, and the issued diploma is to be returned.
