Osaka Monorail Shibahara Station will become Shibahara-handai-mae Station on Tuesday, October 1, 2019

Under its motto of “Live Locally, Grow Globally,” Osaka University is committed to its efforts in strengthening co-creation with the region and advancing globalization.

Inserting the name of a university into the name of its closest station revitalizes the university and the region while making it easier for visitors from both inside of Japan and abroad to be able to visit the university. Thus, Osaka University began talks with Osaka Monorail Co., Ltd. with regards to the naming of Shibahara Station on the Osaka Monorail, the closest station to the Toyonaka Campus.

With Osaka University set to celebrate the 90th anniversary of its founding as well as the 100th anniversary of the founding of Osaka University of Foreign Studies under the slogan of “Connect • Coalesce • Compassion,” the university is engaged in various activities that are appealing to both regional and corporation individuals, with this project being just one of many.

Osaka Monorail has taken into consideration the naming of the station, and has decided to change the name of Shibahara Station to Shibahara-handai-mae Station as of Tuesday, October 1, 2019.

The university would like to thank everyone involved in this station's name change.
