Opening ceremony and commemorative lecture held for the Osaka University "DAIHEN Joining and Welding Research Alliance Laboratory"
On Thursday, June 6, Osaka University and DAIHEN Corporation held an opening ceremony and commemorative lecture for the “DAIHEN Joining and Welding Research Alliance Laboratory” at Icho Hall on Osaka University’s Suita Campus. Over 100 individuals were in attendance, including individuals from the company, the university, and academic communities, as well as students.
The DAIHEN Joining and Welding Research Alliance Laboratory was established at Osaka University’s Joining and Welding Research Institute on April 1, 2019, with the aim of developing highly functional and highly efficient technology in the field of joining and welding.
Moving forward, this laboratory will promote research and development of joining and welding technology to bring about innovation in manufacturing through industry-university co-creation. This will be achieved by combining a) the world class research capabilities of the Joining and Welding Research Institute, b) the education and research prowess of the Division of Materials and Manufacturing Science at the Graduate School of Engineering, and c) the welding equipment control technology and process control technology held by DAIHEN Corporation.
At the opening ceremony, Osaka University
President NISHIO Shojiro and DAIHEN Corporation President TAJIRI Tetsuya
greeted attendees. This was followed by
greetings from MURASE Gohta (Head,
Technology Transfer Promotion Office, Industrial Cooperation and Regional
Support Division, Science and Technology Policy Bureau, Ministry of Education,
Culture, Sports, Science and Technology) and
Osaka University
Executive Vice President YAGI Yasushi (Director of the Co-Creation Bureau).
After
that, Director of the DAIHEN Joining and Welding Research Alliance Laboratory
INOUE Hiroshige (Professor, Joining and Welding Research Institute) explained
the aims of the Research Alliance Laboratory
.
Finally, MINOMO Shoichiro (Senior Vice
President and
Managing Executive Officer, DAIHEN Corporation) gave
a
description of DAIHEN’s business and spoke about his hopes for the future of
this Research Alliance Laboratory.
In the following commemorative lecture meeting, from Osaka University, TANAKA Manabu (Vice Director, DAIHEN Joining and
Welding Research Alliance Laboratory; Dean, Joining and Welding Research
Institute) and ASAI Satoru (Professor, Graduate School of Engineering) gave speeches.
Subsequently, from DAIHEN Corp., BABA Hayato (Researcher, Welding Research Department, Welding Products Division) and ERA Tetsuo (Vice Director, DAIHEN Joining and Welding Research Alliance Laboratory; Visiting Professor, Joining and Welding Institute) delivered speeches. The opening ceremony and commemorative lectures ended on a high note, with attendees enjoying friendly conversation.
