Opening ceremony for Osaka-Mahidol International Office (Mahidol University) held

On Tuesday, March 12, 2019, the opening ceremony for the Osaka-Mahidol International Office (Mahidol University) was held in Multimedia Hall of the Center of Medical Innovation and Translational Research (CoMIT) on Osaka University’s Suita Campus.

Mahidol University of Thailand and Osaka University have been working together for over 45 years, primarily in joint research activity. In December 2017, a signing ceremony was held for the Osaka University ASEAN Campus at Mahidol University. In addition to the establishment of a Joint Campus Office, various endeavors to develop globally-minded professionals who will undertake innovation of future generations are planning to be developed at the ASEAN Campus, such as international joint degrees, which includes the Double Degree Program.

This opening ceremony was held to commemorate the opening of the Osaka-Mahidol International Office in the Center of Medical Innovation and Translational Research (CoMIT), which was opened with the goal of further accelerating collaboration between the two universities.

Fourteen individuals were in attendance from Mahidol University, including President Banchong Mahaisavariya and Vice President Nopraenue Sajjarax Dhirathiti, as well as Acting Consul-General Naruchai Ninnad and Consul Panuwat Prommanon from the Royal Thai Consulate-General, Osaka. Some 70 individuals were in attendance from Osaka University, including President NISHIO Shojiro, Executive Vice President KOBAYASHI Tadashi, Executive Vice President KAWAHARA Genta, and deans from each of the graduate schools.

Tours of the Graduate School of Medicine, Osaka University Hospital, and the Research Institute for Microbial Diseases were held on March 11 as well as on the morning of the opening ceremony on March 12, with a conversation held on education and research collaboration between the two universities.

It is hoped that this opening ceremony will further develop exchange in education and research between the two universities.
