The only one in Japan! Osaka University's Research Institute of Life Design Innovation Project selected for the 2018-2019 Research Hub Support Project for the Realization of Society 5.0 in the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology

On September 19, 2018, Osaka University's Research Institute of Life Design Innovation Projec t was selected for the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's 2018-19 Research Hub Support Project for the Realization of Society 5.0 . Osaka University was the only university selected for this project.

This project aims to support leading core hubs, such as universities, that make efforts towards realizing Society 5.0 by integrating research results of information and science technology beyond projects and organizations in the university under the leadership of the president in order to share their achievements with society.

Society 5.0 is a society in which various social issues will be solved through technological innovation such as the Internet of Things (IoT), big data, and AI in all facets of industry and everyday life.

At Osaka University, we will construct a research hub for verifying information and science technologies necessary for realizing Society 5.0 together with research institutes, local municipalities, and corporations.

From the inseparable link between everyday life and health, we will design a high quality of life (QOL) on the basis of physical health, mental health, social health, and environmental health to share various technological innovations with society and lead social reform. Specifically, we will concurrently promote research on: Lifestyle Research (research for maintaining and improving QOL), Wellness Research (research for improving physical and mental health), and Edutainment Research (research for realizing fun in learning).

This project is planned to run for 5 years from 2018-19 to 2022-23. In the 5th year of the program, there will be a stage gate assessment, and if passed, the program will continue for a maximum extension of 5 years.
