Laboratory journals by Dr. Hideki Yukawa published on the Internet for the very first time! Records of Dr. Yukawa's research during his time as an assistant professor at Osaka Imperial University revealed!
• Overview
On July 6, the Osaka University Yukawa Memorial of the Osaka University Museum and the Kyoto University Yukawa Hall Archival Library of the Yukata Institute for Theoretical Physics at Kyoto University collaborated
In 1933, Dr. Yukawa began to work as a part-time lecturer at the School of Science at Osaka Imperial University, becoming a full-time lecturer in 1934 and from 1936~1939, serving as an assistant professor in the same school. During this time, he performed research in particle physics, developing his meson particle theory. It’s notable that the results of his first thesis on meson particle theory presented in November 1934 led to Dr. Yukawa becoming the first Japanese recipient of the Nobel Prize in 1949.
In order to inform the public about the research materials he left behind and generate people’s
interest in science, both institutes have published the first half of the first volume (s04-19-01) of Dr. Yukawa's 15

• About the Yukawa Laboratory Theory Colloquium Records
On the cover of the published laboratory journal
Dr. Yukawa was appointed as a professor at the Physics Laboratory in Kyoto Imperial University's School of Science on May 26, 1939. The second half of this notebook is a record of his research activity after he moved to Kyoto Imperial University. |
The three lines and the last three words reading "Osaka University," "1939," and "I" on the cover of the notebook were added by Dr. Yukawa after transferring to Kyoto Imperial University. Other historical research materials (research papers, speech manuscripts,
math notebooks, letters, etc.) will also be published on these websites from this fall.
Theory Colloquium : Dr. Yukawa called his seminars and study sessions in the laboratory "Theory Colloquiums." Individuals from outside of the laboratory attended these seminars as well.
