Ceremony for Granting of the Title of Osaka University Distinguished Professor

On Friday, April 7, the Ceremony for Granting of the Title of Osaka University Distinguished Professor was held at the Administration Bureau on Osaka University's Suita Campus.

Started in the 2017-2018 academic year, the title of "Osaka University Distinguished Professor"  is awarded to faculty members at the university to increase motivation and secure outstanding human resources who support university management.

This title is awarded to Osaka University professors and those who have previously held the title of Osaka University Distinguished Professor, have received prestigious awards such as the Nobel Prize, Order of Cultural Merit, Fields Medal, Person of Cultural Merit, The Japan Academy Prize, The Japan Academy Duke of Edinburgh Prize, Japan Art Academy Prize, The Japan Prize, Medal with Purple Ribbon, the Kyoto Prize, and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science Award, among others, and serve a pioneering role in the promotion of education, research, and social contribution at the university.

The title of Osaka University Distinguished Professor was awarded to these 27 individuals as of April 1, 2017.

At the ceremony, title recipients were also given a commemorative plaque, and in President Nishio's congratulatory speech, he praised and thanked the recipients for their tireless efforts in research at Osaka University, after which he spoke about his thoughts on the title of Distinguished Professor, delivering a message filled with the expectation that the recipients of this title will continue their excellence in research and bear the future of Osaka University.
