The 18th Academic Exchange Seminar between Osaka University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University held

The 18th Academic Exchange Seminar between Osaka University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University was held from Thursday, December 15th through Friday, December 16th, 2016. Academic exchange seminars between these two universities have been alternately held since 1995 in accordance with their bilateral academic exchange agreement.

This year, Osaka University served as the host for this seminar, which was split into 3 fields: materials and welding, information, and physics/lasers. Some 60 individuals from Osaka University and 19 individuals from Shanghai Jiao Tong University were in attendance.

At the symposium on the 15th, research presentations were held from representatives from both universities in each field. On the 16th, attendees split up into their respective fields to hold discussions on double degree and joint degree programs.

In addition, a talk was held between Osaka University President NISHIO Shojiro and Vice President HUANG Zhen of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, as well as a discussion on the further strengthening of exchange between the two universities moving forward.

Attendees mentioned that this seminar was significant in that it allowed researchers from both universities from a variety of academic fields to gather together and held presentations and discussions on the latest research results. It is hoped that collaborative research between the two universities with further develop in the future.
