A message from President Nishio to those affected by the Kumamoto Earthquake

I would like to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt sympathy to those individuals and local governments affected by the 2016 Kumamoto Earthquake which occurred last Thursday, April 14.

I would also like to thank those individuals who have been committed to reconstruction support efforts in the areas affected by the earthquake. Osaka University has also been engaged in support efforts since the day after the earthquake through activity such as relief efforts and emergency transport of supplies to affected areas by the Osaka University Hospital DMAT (Disaster Medical Assistance Team).

Due to continuing aftershocks in the area, those affected are still living in difficult circumstances.

I pray for the safety of those affected and for a recovery of the affected area as soon as possible.

Shojiro NISHIO
President, Osaka University
