Osaka University receives the Grand Prize for Energy Conservation, the 2015 Director-General of the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy Prize
Osaka University received the Grand Prize for Energy Conservation, the 2015 Director-General of the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy Prize, sponsored by The Energy Conservation Center, Japan (with support from the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry).
Osaka University was highly evaluated by respected agencies from all over Japan for its endeavors and results to respond to the unique characteristics of a large-scale comprehensive research, which led to being selected to receive this award. At Osaka University, the Department of Environment and Energy Management, in cooperation with the Center for Environmental Innovation Design for Sustainability, has carried out policies for energy conservation based on energy consumption data from each building obtained through the Electricity Consumption Visualization System. Through upgrading Osaka University Hall into a near zero-energy building (nZEB), the results of ESCO ( E nergy S ervice Co mpany) programs at large-scale facilities, and the hard work of all members of the university to conserve energy, the energy consumption of the 3 main campuses in 2014 was reduced by a crude oil equivalent of 7,716 kL/year (an 11.8% decrease), with energy consumption by floor space reduced by 18.6%. Osaka University received this award through a joint application with Nikken Sekkei, Ltd. under the title of "Energy Conservation Practices on the Campuses of a Large-Scale Comprehensive University." Assistant Director SHIMODA Yoshiyuki of the Department of Environment and Energy Management represented Osaka University to receive the award certificate and trophy at the award ceremony held at Tokyo Big Sight on Wednesday, January 27, 2016. The certificate and trophy were presented to President NISHIO Shojiro at a later date. |
