Osaka University North America Alumni Reunion

On Saturday, July 25, the Osaka University North American Alumni Association held lectures, a general meeting, and a get-together in New York. From locations around the US such as New York, Washington D.C., and Los Angeles, some 40 alumni attended, making a total of over 80 people in attendance.

Following the greeting from President Toshio HIRANO, Distinguished Professor Hiroshi ISHIGURO (Graduate School of Engineering Science) talked about robots and future society and Yoshihiko YAMADA (Chief, National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, National Institutes of Health) spoke about the comparison of research systems between Japan and the U.S. and their future outlook. The lectures were followed by an active question and answer session in this very successful reunion.

In the general meeting after the lectures, President Hirano talked about current situation of Osaka University under the theme of "Pave the way to the world -- from Tekijuku to World Tekijuku."  Later on, the title of Global Alumni Fellow, which recognizes the achievements of Osaka University alumni in the world, was given to the six individuals noted below from President Hirano.
