UC/UCEAP Osaka Office 1st Anniversary International Symposium held

On Friday, December 11, 2015, the UC/UCEAP Osaka Office 1st Anniversary International Symposium entitled "Career Development and Globalization" was held at Hankyu Sanwa Hall in Icho Kaikan on the Suita campus of Osaka University.

Suzanne Helbig, Director of the Career Center at the University of California, Irvine (UCI), was invited to give a keynote speech in the first half of the symposium. During the second half, a panel discussion was held with 4 panelists, including Ms. Helbig.

In her keynote speech entitled "Helping Students Map the Future," Ms. Helbig spoke about the Career Support Center at UCI. She gave her presentation with a masterful tempo, working in videos about the individual undertakings of each of the 3 stages of the Career Support Center, "Explore, Connect, Succeed," such as internships, job shadowing, and networking events. Additionally, Ms. Helbig also spoke about services geared towards graduate students, the importance of expressing academics that appeal to the industry, and the necessity of internships. On top of that, she introduced the activity of her student staff, as well as unique endeavors for making current students interested in the Career Support Center.

In the second half, after hearing from each panelist about their own careers, the panelists discussed the possibility of incorporating UCI's career education at universities in Japan, as well as how UC and OU can cooperate from the viewpoint of human resource cultivation. This was followed by a Q&A session with attending faculty and students, making for a very informative symposium.
