20th Osaka University Future Talk Held

On Tuesday, July 21, 2015, the 20th Osaka University Future Talk was held at Osaka University Hall.

For this Future Talk, 2010 Nobel Prize in Chemistry laureate and Hokkaido University Emeritus Professor SUZUKI Akira gave a lecture in front of some 400 attendees.

Professor SUZUKI, under the title of "Cross-Coupling Reactions of Organoboranes," talked about a variety of topics, from an encounter with a foreign book which became the impetus for a math-loving student to set his heart on organic chemistry, to the development of "Suzuki coupling," to the reaction, which is not only used in fundamental chemistry, but also a wide array  of fields, such as a medicine and agriculture, as well as everyday things such as liquid crystals and organic EL.

During the Q&A session, he passionately answered questions from students, including one student who asked, "If you were to be born again, what would you do?" to which he replied, "I want to keep researching; there are still so many things I want to solve," and gave an inspiring cheer of support for the students and researchers who will bear the future.

We'd like to give our specials thanks to Professor SUZUKI and all those in attendance.
