Osaka University Institute for Academic Initiatives International Symposium "Developing Strategies for Drug Development through Academia" held

On Tuesday, March 3, Osaka University Institute for Academic Initiatives held the International Symposium "Developing Strategies for Drug Development through Academia" at the Knowledge Theater Umeda Osaka. This symposium was held following the symposium "Developing Future Drugs based on Academia Basic Research."
Under the theme of "strategic development for creating new innovation leading to drug development by academia," well-known researchers active on the world's front lines delivered speeches to some 150 people.
Following the greeting from Toshio HIRANO (President), HISHIYAMA Yutaka (Assistant Manager, Headquarters for Healthcare Policy, Cabinet Secretariat), TADA Masayo (Chairman, Japan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association), SEKI Soichiro (Director, Kansai Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry) also made greetings.
The greetings were followed by an explanation about the division from DOI Takefumi (Head, Division of Innovative Research for Drug Development of Osaka University Institute for Academic Initiatives).
Following his explanation, Maree Smith (Professor, The University of Queensland), Jiye Shi (UCB Pharma, Belgium), MATSUMI Yoshio (Representative Director & President, OSAKA University Venture Capital Co., Ltd.), KUBOTA Ryo (Chairman, Acucela Inc., USA), KANAI Yoshikatsu (Professor, Graduate School of Medicine, Osaka University), and HORII Toshihiro (Professor, Research Institute for Microbial Diseases, Osaka University) delivered lectures.
The Division of Innovative Research for Drug Development of Osaka University Institute for Academic Initiatives was established in December 2012. In this symposium, participants shared information about what the institute has promoted since its foundation -- drug development research from basic research, research and development of support technologies, and strategies for developing those ideas and solutions which are born of academia, which was very fruitful for Osaka University as well.
