The lecture series "Case Based Critical Thinking" has started

A special English lecture series "Case Based Critical Thinking" started on Thursday, December 18. This series is jointly organized by UC/UCEAP Osaka Office and Osaka University's North American Center for Academic Initiatives. The lecturer for this series is Dr. John Hampton Ino , Specially Appointed Professor, Institute for Academic Initiatives, Osaka University (and Professor Emeritus, University of California, San Francisco; former Director, UC Tokyo Study Center).
This special English lecture series is being conducted in an interactive seminar-style, based on group discussions about familiar topics. Participants consider things from multiple viewpoints, critically and pleasantly, through stakeholder analysis in order to develop logical thinking ability and communication skills.
Four graduate students and 12 undergraduate students in liberal arts and science courses at Osaka University attended this first class, held discussions in four groups, and made presentations regarding on two topics of "Tokyo Olympics" and "divorce gene". Interested in these themes explained by Professor Ino, which are rarely dealt with in usual classes, the students had lively discussions and presentations. Assistant professors at International College also viewed Prof. Ino's teaching methods, active learning, in the class. The second lecture of this series will be held on Thursday, January 15.
