Opening Ceremony held for Harima Center for Photon Science, Osaka University

On Friday, October 31, the opening ceremony for Osaka University's Harima Center for Photon Science was held on location at RIKEN's Harima Branch.

Following greetings from Toshio HIRANO (President, Osaka University), Naoki KIMURA (Director, Scientific Research Institutes Division, Research Promotion Bureau, Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology), and Maki KAWAI (Director, RIKEN), the ribbon cutting ceremony was held celebrating the opening with more than 100 people in attendance.

Following the ceremony, the people participated in a tour of the facilities and a reception. At the reception, Director Saburo AIMOTO (Executive Vice President, Osaka University) thanked all in attendance, saying, "This facility was completed thanks to the support and kind consideration of many people. We will continue to work hard to make this facility a world center of visible light and optical science."

People have high hopes for this facility, a facility for establishing a new style of education and research, for strengthening its functions by combining the world's most advanced technology in photonics with basic technology, internationally competitive element technology, and outstanding personnel.
