Report on hacking of the School of Science website

As announced on June 12 , the School of Science website was hacked from 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 11 through 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 12, 2014.  Following the discovery of this, the server was taken off the network and temporary measures were announced.

Following our investigation, it was found that persons who viewed old portions of the website with the URL <www 2 .sci.osaka-u.ac.jp> during that time may have had malware inadvertently installed on their computer -- if they had been accessing the site with a Windows computer running an old(er) version of Java.

We have verified that there were and are no problems in other portions of the website. We apologize again for any inconvenience caused. We intend to take measures and beef up security surveillance.

The content of the Science and Mathematics Honor Program in the hacked server will be available after the completion of content transfer.

All persons are reminded to make sure antivirus software is kept up-to-date.
