Symposium: "Youth of Japan, you've got to listen... Starting HERE, starting NOW!" held

On Sunday, March 4, the symposium " Youth of Japan, you've got to listen... Starting HERE, starting NOW! " was held at the Mainichi Newspapers' Oval Hall with about 240 participants in attendance.

Three eminent Osaka University professors -- OTAKE Fumio, Institute of Social and Economic Research, KOBAYASHI Tadashi, Center for the Study of Communication-Design, and ISHIGURO Hiroshi, Graduate School of Engineering Science -- delivered lectures. From their varied professional viewpoints, they examined Japan's current stagnation and presented proposals regarding the future.

Prior to their lectures, students of the Department of Theatre Studies of the Graduate School of Letters moved the audience with a powerful performance for repose of the souls of victims of the Great East Japan Earthquake and reconstruction of the disaster-stricken areas.

In the round-table talk hosted by the MBS [Mainichi Broadcasting System] announcer (and graduate of Osaka University's School of Law), NISHI Yasushi, the three professors spoke about Japan, demonstrating multiple professional informed viewpoints, characteristics of scholarship at a comprehensive university.

Osaka University is grateful for the many who attended despite the day's inclement weather.
