Exemption of 2012 Entrance Examination Fee for individuals whose family suffered economic losses attributable to the Great East Japan Earthquake

Osaka University extends its heartfelt sympathies to all those affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake and its aftermath.

Osaka University is implementing special measures for the purpose of exempting students, whose family suffered economic losses attributable to the earthquake, from paying the 2012 entrance examination fees in order to reduce the economic burden on such disaster victims and ensure opportunities for those students to take the entrance examination.

Note : Regarding the Entrance Examination for Students Joining the International Physics Olympiad as Representatives of Japan sponsored by the School of Science, students taking exam will receive reimbursement for their entrance examination fees after making application.

1. Exemption of fees 2012 entrance examination will be applied to the following school entrance examinations .

  • General screening
  • Admission by recommendation
  • Screening for Technical High School Graduates
  • Entrance Examination Information for Applicants Graduating from Overseas High Schools (Overseas Repatriates)
  • Screening for students whose mother/father is a repatriate from China
  • Admission of students joining the International Physics Olympiad as representatives of Japan
  • Screening for unsponsored international students

2. Content of the special measure

Exemption of the ¥17,000 entrance examination fee. However, students who take Entrance Examination for Students Joining the International Physics Olympiad as Representatives of Japan will receive reimbursement for their entrance examination fees after making applications. Therefore, those students need to pay the entrance examination fee when they make application for entrance examination.

3. Eligibility

(1) Individuals hoping for admission to Osaka University and were residing in areas covered by the Disaster Relief Law following the the Great East Japan Earthquake and for whom

a. A house owned by his/her main provider has been completely or partially destroyed, or washed away.

b. His/her main provider died or is still missing.

(2) In the aftermath of accidents at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plants, an individual whose house is located in the caution area in accordance with the Disaster Countermeasures Basic Act or in the area designated as an area to be evacuated in accordance with the Act on Special Measures Concerning Nuclear Emergency Preparedness.

4. How to apply

Individuals hoping to obtain exemption of entrance examination fee are required to contact the office in paragraph #6 before making application. Individuals who contact the Admission Division and are recognized as eligible to apply are required to submit specified documents with application forms. In this case, such applicants will not have to pay entrance examination fee when making application.

Please note that students who take Entrance Examination for Students Joining the International Physics Olympiad as Representatives of Japan will receive reimbursement for their entrance examination fees later. Therefore, those students need to pay the entrance examination fee when making application for entrance examination. For more information about reimbursement, applicants will be informed later.

  • (2) Certificate of Disaster Victim issued by municipal government -- Individuals covered under paragraph 3 (1) a
  • (3) Death Certificate or Missing Person Certificate -- Individuals covered under paragraph 3 (1) b
  • (4) Certificate of Disaster Victim issued by municipal government -- Individuals covered under paragraph 3 (2)
