Graduation Ceremony and Graduate Schools Investiture Ceremony Celebrated

2010 Graduation Ceremony and 2010 Graduate School Investiture Ceremony were held at Osaka-Jo Hall on Friday, March 25.

The graduation ceremony began with a minute of silence for victims of the Great Tohoku-Pacific Ocean Earthquake. This year, 3,507 undergraduate students graduated from Osaka University. Undergraduate degrees were conferred upon 2,063 students, Juris Doctor's degrees upon 87, and Doctor's degrees upon upon 569.

Following the conferring of these degrees, 23 outstanding graduates received Kusumoto Awards for excellent achievement from the Kusumoto Scholarship Association, established to commemorate the retirement of KUSUMOTO Chozaburo, the second president of Osaka University. After that, degrees of master, juris doctor, and doctor were given to representatives of schools.

TOYOSHIMA Kumao, professor emeritus of Osaka University, delivered a commemorative address to the graduates in which he reminded them to display new ways of thinking, the special knowledge and comprehensive worldview they possess as individuals and to enhance the presence of Japan in the world.
