As one of the events being planned for Osaka University's 80th anniversary and to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Kaitokudo Commemoration Association, a symposium for exploring learning styles in the 21st century -- "The Kaitokudo Commemoration Association: The Past 100 Years and the Coming 100 Years" -- was held at NKN Osaka Hall on Saturday, November 27 under joint sponsorship of Kaitokudo Commemoration Association, Osaka University, and NHK Osaka.

The symposium consisted of 2 sessions. The first session started with the introduction of commemorative film of Chitoku-no-isan, Seiki wo Koete [Heritage of Scholarship and Virtue over Centuries]. It was followed with a keynote speech titled "Purposes of Education currently Asked" by SAKAIYA Taichi, a writer.

In the second session, a panel discussion was held. In addition to SAKAIYA Taichi, the fashion designer KOSHINO Hiroko, the former vice president of Suntory Holdings TSUDA Kazuaki, and Osaka University President WASHIDA Kiyokazu joined the discussion. MIRINISHI Mayumi, Professor of Osaka Shoin Women's University served as the facilitator.

This symposium was met with success with about 500 people in attendance.
