5th Homecoming Day Held

The 5th Homecoming Day was held on the Toyonaka Campus at the same time as the Icho Festival , Saturday, May 1. The ceremony started in a welcoming mood with 315 graduates and their family and friends visiting the campus in the beautiful weather that day. Cheerleaders welcoming the graduates and guests with a smile at the entrance of the Common Education Hall ["'E' Go Kan"] added to the mood.

Hosted by TAKASUGI Eiichi, trustee and vice president, the ceremony kicked off with a performance by the cheerleaders. Their magnificent performance of the dormitory song of high schools in Osaka was especially applauded.

Greetings were then presented by three figures, the president WASHIDA Kiyokazu, the president of the alumni association and former president of Osaka University, KUMAGAI Nobuaki, as well as the advisor to the Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation and graduate of School of Law, NISHIKAWA Yoshifumi, who delivered a lecture as a representative of the alumni. He talked about his memories of his school days and experiences after joining the Sumitomo Bank. He encouraged current students to actively work in pursuing their dreams.

The lecture was followed by a party at the restaurant in the library building. Again hosted by TAKASUGI Eiichi, trustee and vice president, the party started with a toast proposed by AONO Toshirhiro, graduate of School of Medicine and former president of The University of Tokushima.

Participants enjoyed chatting and renewing friendships while listening the background music played by the student music circle "Swing" and the party finished in a friendly atmosphere.

After the party, visitors participated in events held by the school they graduated from and events of the Icho Festival. Many spent the day at their old school, participating in the Museum of Osaka University Lecture and viewing the Tekijuku Special Exhibition to Commemorate the 200th Anniversary of OGATA Koan's Birth and the 80th Anniversary of Osaka University's Founding.

'E' Go Kan, the venue of this event, will be renovated in conjunction with the 80th Anniversary of Osaka University's Founding and be born again as Osaka University Hall next year.

Homecoming Days have traditionally been held in the 'E' Go Kan. Alumni will be able to see the newly renovated Osaka University Hall at the Homecoming next year.

We'd like to express our sincere appreciation to alumni and friends for their participation in this year's events. Alumni are cordially invited to attend the ceremony at  next year's Homecoming Day again with your family and friends!
