Proposals to formulate New Growth Policies and Basic Science and Technology Plans
Considering the crucial importance of our nation's universities, the presidents of nine major universities, major players in scholarship, hereby announce their proposals for the formulation and implementation of emergency policies in order to ask that the government devise new growth policies and plans for next generation basic science and technology, and, moreover, in order to appeal to the public and industry for their understanding and cooperation.
Heretofore, the driving force for our nation's current prosperity and position on the international scene are due to quality personnel and excellence in science, technology, and scholarship. If our nation is to continue to develop and compete in the current age of intense global competition, we must continue to improve the foundation of research and personnel development at our centers of scholarship, our universities.
Your understanding and cooperation in achieving these goals is greatly appreciated.
Note: The nine universities mentioned above are: Osaka University, Hokkaido University, Tohoku University, The University of Tokyo, Nagoya University, Kyoto University, Kyushu University, and Keio University .
