Osaka University Selected as an Advanced Research and Development Support Program university

KAWAI Tomoji , professor at the Institute of Scientific and Industrial Research and AKIRA Shizuo , professor at the Industrial Research Immunology Frontier Research Center were selected as leading researchers under the Advanced Research and Development Support Program.

Out of 565 groups (428 of which were universities) that applied for recognition in the Advanced Research and Development Support Program, 30 groups were selected this year. Two groups from Osaka University were selected.

Field : Nanotechnology and materials
Research title : Research on innovative nanobio devices based on single molecule analysis
Research leader : KAWAI Tomoji, professor at the Institute of Scientific and Industrial Research

Field : Life science
Research title : Integrative understanding of immuno-dynamism and establishment of immunological control
Research leader : AKIRA Shizuo, professor at the Industrial Research Immunology Frontier Research Center

The Advanced Research and Development Support Program is a totally new system for supporting research and development in the best interest of researchers by improving the environment so that researchers can display their abilities in research and development to the greatest extent possible. The program aims at reinforcing our nation's medium- and long-term international competitiveness, industrial potential, and safety assurances and sharing research results with society. These purposes will be achieved by promoting top-level research and development in various fields and stages.
