Osaka University Program Selected
The 2009 Global COE Program received 145 program applications from 85 universities in Japan. Nine programs from nine universities were selected and a program from Osaka University was one of those nine!

The Global COE Program started in 2007 and aims (1) to increase the
competitiveness of universities by targeting support for
internationally outstanding institutions--often referred to as
"bases"--in order to further improve and strengthen the education and
research functions at Japan's graduate schools and (2) to nurture
creative individuals to lead the world at the world's best fundamental
research institutions.
In the case of Osaka University, 12
projects have been selected to date: 7 programs in 2007, 4 programs in 2008, and 1
program in 2009. The university is working on forming 12 bases.
