IMPORTANT--Lifting of ban on Extracurricular Activities [A(H1N1) #15]

At Osaka University we have come to the conclusion that it is time to lift the ban on extracurricular activities--set forth in announcement #9 on A(H1N1) influenza--and return the functioning of the university to normal. We reached this conclusion after consideration of the low numbers of consultations regarding fevers at school health services against the need to continue every effort to prevent the spread of this new influenza virus and the demerits of lost opportunities for education in the cancellation of such activities.

Therefore, effective from Friday, May 29 the ban on extracurricular activities set forth in announcements #9 and #13 is hereby lifted returning our university campus to normal.

Nonetheless, despite the contents of this announcement, we cannot rule out the cancellation of certain classes or activities due to a situation involving persons infected with the virus. For that reason, please continue to pay close attention to Osaka University home pages and KOAN for the latest information.

Specifically, this announcement lifts the ban on :

• All conferences, seminars, and like activities for undergraduate and graduate students.

• All extracurricular activities.

Please keep in mind that if one contracts this new influenza, it is not merely a problem of the person who becomes ill, but it is also a problem for those around him/her. Therefore, please exercise care and your responsibility as a member of the Osaka University community.

Continue to observe the measures outlined in Announcement #10 regarding minimizing one’s potential to contract this virus.

Finally, if you should exhibit symptoms of this influenza (fever, coughing, sneezing, and/or diarrhea), please contact the Department of Safety and Hygiene at once.
