[Online Event] 2021 SHIBA Ryotaro Memorial Academic Lecture and New Minoh Campus Opening Symposium

Osaka University will hold the 2021 SHIBA Ryotaro Memorial Academic Lecture and New Minoh Campus Opening Symposium on Sunday, November 14 online to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The SHIBA Ryotaro Memorial Academic Lecture, which starts at 3:00 pm, will feature a lecture by novelist TAWADA Yoko as well as a Bibliobattle by OU students under the theme of “The Path Connecting Japan to the World.”

Following this, an international symposium to celebrate the opening of the new Minoh Campus in April of 2021 will begin at 5:00 pm. On the topic of “The Path Connecting Japan to the World of the Future,” author Hideo Levy and model/actress Sahel Rosa will hold lectures and a panel discussion.

In the Bibliobattle, OU students will hold review and Q&A sessions for their favorite SHIBA Ryotaro’s works. The champion and runner-up will be decided through votes cast by viewers.

What is a Bibliobattle?

Also known as an “intellectual book review battle,” the Bibliobattle is a competition conceived and named in Japan in which contestants introduce their book recommendations to see which book the judges want to read most. According to the Bibliobattle Promotion Committee's official rules, contestants are given 5 minutes each to talk about the appeal of their book of choice, and the book that garners the most votes is the champion.
