Have you ever heard of “Minpaku”?

“Minpaku” is the nickname given to the National Museum of Ethnology (or the Kokuritsu Min zoku Haku butsukan ), which is located within the Expo ’70 Commemorative Park, well-known for its Tower of the Sun and a neighbor of the Suita Campus. Minpaku combines one of the largest museums in the world, with exhibits on display detailing everyday life, culture, clothing, and housing of peoples from all over the world, with graduate school education, making it a one-of-a-kind institute in the realm of cultural anthropology and ethnology .

Minpaku contains regional exhibits featuring 9 regions from across the world, as well as cross-cultural exhibits on music and language.

The materials at Minpaku have been gathered from nations all over the world by its researchers, totaling nearly 34,000 items! However, the items on display at Minpaku are only a portion of its collection; there are about 28 times as many materials on standby in the repository as what are shown in exhibits! So for the first time ever, we will be holding the “Minpaku Discovery Tour (for OU students only!),” at which you can get an extra special look at this repository for yourself. It’s not every day that you get an opportunity to get a backstage look at a museum!

Participants in the “Minpaku Discovery Tour (for OU students only!)” will make a trip around the world in a single day, diving deep into a world that can’t be found on any map.

We encourage OU students to participate in this one-of-a-kind tour of a world-class cultural anthropology and ethnology museum located right next to OU!
