Intended for
  • Current Student
  • Faculty / Staff
Date
2019.6.20 Thu 16:30 - 0:00

For this event, we’ll welcome Kumamon, the official bear mascot of Kumamoto Prefecture, and hear a lecture from URATA Miki, section chief of the Kumamon Group of the Office of the Governor of Kumamoto Prefectural Government.

Kumamon is a charismatic figure in the world of mascot characters and was also featured on “The Professionals,” a program being broadcast on NHK Television.

Sales of Kumamon-related products have continued to increase, reaching more than 150 billion yen per year.

Kumamon was the first mascot character to be featured in a series of biographical manga by a major Japanese publishing company.

How did a mascot character created by a single municipality become the superstar that he is today?

We’ll hear about the work style of Kumamon, the most famous municipal mascot in Japan, everything from the difficulties over his creation to his activities just after the 2016 Kumamoto earthquakes as well as collaboration with local people.

*Registration is necessary to attend this event. We hope to see many current students, faculty, and staff members in attendance. (All students, faculty, and staff members are eligible to attend, and casual attire is acceptable.)

[6/6 Update] Dr. Wani is set to make an appearance with Kumamon during the seminar!
