University of Vienna (in an Inter-University Exchange Agreement with Osaka University)
Established in 1365, the University of Vienna is one of the oldest universities in the world and currently the most reputed university in Austria. With some 7,000 faculty members and 10,000 yearly graduates, the University of Vienna is Austria’s largest research and educational institution and one of the largest in Europe. This comprehensive, research-focused public university promotes international exchange and actively accepts foreign students.
Osaka University Student Exchange Program
Since OU has concluded an inter-university exchange agreement with the University of Vienna, OU regular students can take classes and/or receive research guidance via the exchange program.
The procedures and schedule for studying at the University of Vienna are listed below. (as of July 2024)
(Note: There may be changes applied to the next year’s schedule.)
For example, those who wish to study abroad from the winter term (October ~ January) of AY2025 need to apply by the September 2024 deadline.
Those who wish to study abroad during the summer semester of AY2026 (March ~ June) also need to apply by the September 2024 deadline.
Additional recruiting will take place only when there is an opening and it is only for the summer term (March ~ June) of AY2026.

Wide Range of Courses
The University of Vienna has the largest range of programs in Austria, allowing students to choose from a wide selection of courses, 30% of which can be taken in English. The university provides a variety of learning opportunities. Students can study Eastern European history and music from Vienna’s abundant cultural and historical heritage. Many international organizations, including United Nations Office, makes the city an attractive place to study political science.
Comfortable Living Environment
Vienna, the capital of Austria, has a variety of historical and contemporary cultural facilities. Some highlights of these include the Cathedral of St Stephen, Hofburg Palace, and MuseumsQuartier. Vienna is a lively and safe major city located at the center of Europe, and has been praised as one of the most livable cities in the world for many years.
Short-term Study Abroad Courses Recommended by the University of Vienna's International Office
The Language Center of the University of Vienna offers courses in German and over 30 other foreign languages. Various courses are held throughout the year, including summer intensive courses and summer night courses. The center also provides short-term programs ranging from 1~4 weeks in the summer (July ~ September) and winter (February). These programs are open to international students as well as local students seeking their master’s or doctoral degrees and provide courses on cultural studies and history, law and European studies, and even natural sciences.
