University of Groningen (home to the Osaka University European Center for Academic Initiatives)
Established in 1614, the University of Groningen (UG) allows visitors to feel the history and tradition of the Netherlands, a nation that has thrived on the world stage. What’s more, the university also provides a sense of freshness through its dynamic approaches to tackling global issues such as environmental problems. The European Center for Academic Initiatives, one of Osaka University’s four overseas centers, is located at the University of Groningen, providing detailed support through close cooperation between faculty and staff from the two universities.

To study at UG, there are two types of study programs available:

  1. Osaka University Student Exchange Program
  2. University of Groningen Short Study Program
1) Osaka University Student Exchange Program
Since OU has concluded an inter-university exchange agreement with UG, OU regular students can take classes and/or perform research overseas via the exchange program.

(Note: There may be changes applied to the next year’s schedule.)

For example, those who wish to study abroad from the fall semester (September ~ January) of AY2025 need to apply by the September 2024 deadline regardless of the duration of your study program: fall semester course or full-year course.
Those who wish to study abroad during the spring semester of AY2026 (February ~ July) also need to apply by the September 2024 deadline.

Additional recruiting will take place only when there is an opening and it is only for the spring semester (February ~ July) of AY2026.

2) University of Groningen Short Study Program
This program aims to enhance comprehensive development of English presentation, communication, and writing skills, as well as to deepen the understanding of how people in the Netherlands build relationships with those from other cultures and their efforts to solve global issues. OU students can participate in this study program during their spring holiday.
