Program Overview
We are pleased to announce that the Center for Global Initiatives, Osaka University, is launching “SDGs Virtual Student Exchange-2022” with four main activities for students to learn from each other, from our experts, alumni, and other inspirational speakers about local and global challenges. Issues to be addressed include climate change, natural disasters, infectious diseases, and conflicts as well as rapid urbanization and the aging that significantly impact our economy, environment, and society.
These issues of importance for our planetary future are stipulated in the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted in 2015. Although it may be difficult to achieve a significant change within a short time, we can take an active role and make a difference in our local community, national society, and the world. SDGs Virtual Student Exchange-2022 provides a platform to share your awareness and ideas with your peers around the world and to move forward together! We invite all students at Osaka University and our partner universities worldwide to actively participate in these events.
Some programs have eligibility criteria while others are open to public. Please see the details of each program as we announce:
“Learning SDGs Globally & Locally” Intensive Online Course
- Date: August 22-29, 2022
- Duration: 6 days, 7 sessions
- Eligible participants: Students from Osaka University and partner universities with virtual student exchange agreements, APRU and AEARU member universities
- Credit: 1 credit
- Seat limit: 80 students
- Language: English

“Let’s Take Action!” Osaka University SDGs Symposium
- Date: August 29, 2022
- Time: 14:00-16:00 (JST, UTC+9)
- Eligible participants: Open to public
- Seat limit: 200 participants
- Language: Japanese and English

“3 Minutes of Inspiration for Sustainable Development” Student Video Contest (2022 round)
- Entry deadline: October 2, 2022, 23:59 (JST, UTC+9)
- Video submission deadline: October 30, 2022, 23:59 (JST, UTC+9)
- Eligible participants: Students from Osaka University and partner universities with academic exchange agreements
- Prize: Grand Prize: 100,000 JPY, Best SDGs Idea Prize, Best Production Prize, nomination prize, and certificates of participation for all video entries
